THE AGONY OF PRAYER
Then he withdrew from them about a stone’s throw, knelt down, and
prayed, “Father, if you are willing, remove this cup from me; yet,
not my will but yours be done.” Then an angel from heaven appeared
to him and gave him strength. In his anguish he prayed more earnestly, and
his sweat became like great drops of blood falling down on the ground.”
(Luke 22:41-44)
Prayer is not difficult to understand. It is difficult to do. When was the
last time when your heart so grieved for those you were interceding for
that your entire body agonized along with your mind and heart? “In
the days of his flesh, Jesus offered up prayers and supplications, with
loud cries and tears, to the one who was able to save him from death, and
he was heard because of his reverent submission. Although he was a Son,
he learned obedience through what he suffered; and having been made perfect,
he became the source of eternal salvation for all who obey him...”
(Heb. 5:7-9) We are a generation that avoids pain at all costs. This is
why there are so few intercessors. Most Christians operate on the shallowest
levels of prayer, but God wants to take us into the deep levels of intercessory
prayer that only a few ever experience. Deep, prolonged intercession is
painful. It involves staying before God when everyone else has gone away
or sleeps. (Luke 22:45) It involves experiencing brokenness with the Father
over those who continually rebel against Him. How many of us will experience
this kind of fervent intercession?
We long for Pentecost in our lives and in our churches, but there is no
Pentecost without Gethsemane and a cross. How do we become mature in our
prayer life? By praying. When we do not feel like praying is precisely the
time we ought to pray. There are no shortcuts to prayer. There are no books
to read, seminars to attend, or inspirational mottoes to memorize that will
transform us into intercessors. This comes only by committing ourselves
to pray and then doing so.
Why not accept God’s invitation to become an intercessor? Don’t
allow yourself to become satisfied with shallow, self-centred praying. Stay
with God in prayer until He leads you to pray at the level He wants.

A PRAYER FOR SOULS
IN PURGATORY
O gentle Heart of Jesus, ever present in the Blessed Sacrament, ever consumed
with burning love for the poor captive souls in Purgatory, have mercy on
them. Be not severe in Your judgments, but let some drops of Your Precious
Blood fall upon the devouring flames. And, Merciful Savior, send Your angels
to conduct them to a place of refreshment, light and peace. Amen.
May the souls of the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in
peace. Amen. |
POWER OF HAVING RECOURSE TO THE INTERCESSION
OF OUR LADY OF THE HOLY ROSARY! The
Holy Rosary of our Blessed Mother is a very profound and meaningful form
of prayer. In it we have our salvation history in a nutshell. Therein
we contemplate the central mysteries of Christian life: the redemption
of mankind through the incarnation, words and deeds, passion, death and
resurrection of Jesus Christ, God’s son born of the Blessed Virgin
Mary. Pope Paul VI says, “During the month of October, making a
garland by praying the Rosary and presenting it to the Blessed Virgin
Mary, the Mother of Christ, is a praiseworthy custom among believers.
Like our predecessors, I do heartily endorse this devotional practice.
Moreover, I call upon the people of God to carry the Rosary of our Blessed
Mother.”
During this month, a special rosary was prayed in common every evening
at Jeevan Dham. The rosary, as shown by God in visions, was interceded
for a particular group of people or an objective, with the Word of God
that appeared as the Bible was opened under inspiration (which deals with
the goal of intercession and God’s response to it). Everyday many
people experienced physical healings (viz. headache, stomach ache, blessed
with the gift of a child, or a job, or a house, of sight or hearing; healing
of diseases like T.B., Leprosy, and other incurable diseases like Cancer,
Tumour et al). By this we understand the power of praying the rosary with
faith, the power of having recourse to the intercession of Mother Mary
for all our needs, our problems and difficulties. Below is the list of
the intercession made each day during the month of October 2005, and the
corresponding Word obtained from the Bible.

BIBLE QUIZ XIX. THE
HUMAN PICTURE OF JESUS
To Mark, Jesus was simply a man among men; He was God among men, ever moving
them to a wonderful amazement with his words and deeds. At the same time,
no gospel gives such a vivid human picture of Jesus as Mark does. Sometimes
its picture is so human that the later writers (Luke and Matthew) alter
it a little because they are almost afraid to say what Mark said. To Mark
Jesus is simply “the carpenter’ (6:3). Later Matthew alters
that to “the carpenter’s son” (Matt. 13:55), as if to
call Jesus a village tradesman is too daring. When Mark is telling of the
temptations of Jesus, he writes, “The Spirit drove him into the wilderness.”
(1:12) Matthew and Luke do not like this word drove used of Jesus, so they
soften it down and say, “Jesus was led by the Spirit into the wilderness.”
(Matt. 4:1; Luke 4:1). No one tells us so much about the emotions of Jesus
as Mark does. It is in Mark’s gospel that we get a picture of a Jesus
of like passions with us. The sheer humanity of Jesus in Mark’s picture
brings him very near to us. Now, you have to find the instance(s) for each
of the emotions of Jesus given below in the Gospel of Mark:
1. Jesus sighed deeply in his Spirit.
2. He was moved with righteous anger.
3. He felt the pangs of hunger.
4. He was tired and wanted to rest.
5. He was moved with compassion.
6. He marvelled at people’s unbelief.
7. He was filled with love for a rich man. |

25-YR OLD TUMOUR DISAPPEARS MIRACULOUSLY THROUGH PRAYERS!
Praise be to Jesus! Thanks be to Jesus!
25 years back I started having some small lumps developing on my chest
which gradually increased in size with time. At first I went to the nearby
doctors for treatment. When they could not help, they referred me to the
Safdarjung Hospital, New Delhi. I was advised to have an operation at
the Safdarjung Hospital and as well as at AIIMS. But I was frightened
to undergo an operation. I just took some medicine for few weeks. Later,
I took homeopathy medicine for nearly 6 years. Yet, there was no relief
to my miserable condition.
Last month, a lady in my neighbourhood told me about this place, Jeevan
Dham, and about few miracles taking place here through prayers. I went
to her house and prayed with their family that day. The following Sunday
I came here and listened to the Word of God. From that day itself, peace
was restored to my heart. All our family quarrels and fights came to a
halt. Moreover, my husband, who used to get drunk everyday, now took mild
liquor on odd occasions and started giving me money for house expenditure.
I used to apply the blessed water on the tumour and prayed everyday for
my ailment and for my family. Within four weeks, the tumour in my chest
disappeared leaving behind few stains here and there. I firmly believe
that this miracle happened only through the grace of God who had mercy
on me and answered my prayers without delay. Praise the Lord!

BRAIN HAEMORRHAGE HEALED! GOD GRANTS MY MOTHER A NEW LIFE!
Praise
be to Jesus! Thanks be to Jesus!
Jesus said, “What is impossible for mortal is possible for God”(Luke
18:27), and with trust in Him, I have obtained through His grace and mercy
what seemed to be impossible. He gave a new life to my mother who had
lost her senses and was totally bedridden for three months due to brain
haemorrhage.
On July 13 this year, my mother Ishra Devi, who is about 58 years old
now, suddenly fell down unconscious. She could not speak a word for 10
days. She even failed to recognize anyone of us. One of the village doctors
examined her and found that one of the nerves in her brain had been damaged
severely and was bleeding profusely. The village doctors tried their best
but could not help her. She was totally bedridden with her left side paralysed,
unable to eat or drink anything by herself. My brother, who is working
here in Faridabad, brought her here and took her first to the B.K. Hospital
and then to the Sunflag Hospital. She was provided with a respiratory
tube and a tube for passing urine. When I found no improvement in her
health, even after spending over Rs. 35-40,000 on her treatment (the daily
medicine intake cost about Rs.150/-), I brought her here to JEEVAN DHAM
with great difficulty around a month ago.
The first Sunday, a volunteer ushered her wheelchair and laid her down
on the ground in the shade. I prayed fervently to the Lord, “O God,
if you wish either heal my mother completely or let her die in peace rather
than undergoing this prolonged suffering and pain.” I took the blessed
water from here and gave her to drink and massaged her paralysed left
hand and leg with the blessed oil. I read the prayer book ‘Naya
Jeevan’ to her everyday. The Merciful Lord heard our prayers very
soon. Within a few days, I saw a significant improvement in her health.
Slowly and gradually she started moving her paralysed hand and leg, and
spoke and recognized few people. One day she stood up without any support,
ate food and drank water by herself. Now she can walk with ease without
limping. Today, through God’s grace, she went and climbed on the
stage on her own without anybody’s help and felt stronger and healthier.
I thank the Almighty God for this precious favour and all those who prayed
for her
good health. Alleluia!
Prema Devi (age-28 years),
Ishra Devi, Faridabad
“Then they cried to the Lord in their trouble, and he saved
them from their distress; he sent out his word and healed them, and delivered
them from destruction. Let them thank the Lord for his steadfast love,
for his wonderful works to humankind.” (Psalms 107:19-21)
