GET THE SPIRIT OF TRUTH: OUR GUIDE, PROMISED HELPER AND REVEALER!

    *Our Catholic Faith*
This month on 4th the church celebrated the feast of Pentecost and on 11th the feast of the Holy Trinity. The common celebrity is the Promised Helper, the third person of the Trinity- the HOLY SPIRIT.  Before the descent of the Holy Spirit, the apostles were of good will, but they were weak, inconstant and fearful. When Jesus was taken prisoner, they all fled. Peter, the head of the apostles, denied Christ three times. After receiving the Holy Spirit on Pentecost, the apostles were filled with courage and a readiness to die for the faith. They spoke boldly with conviction, preached the Gospel firmly and were afraid of no one. Their outlook and their work, their life and their destination, had been changed completely. They were endowed with the charisms or the gifts of the Holy Spirit, which made them altogether different from the world in their words and deeds, in their understanding of God. But what are these principal gifts of the Holy Spirit?

THE SEVEN GIFTS OF THE HOLY SPIRIT:
The seven principal gifts are: wisdom, understanding, counsel, fortitude, knowledge, piety, and fear of the Lord. These gifts are a) effects of the Holy Spirit's indwelling, b) capacities predisposing to the gifts. The Holy Spirit gives them to whom he wills and in the measure he chooses and c) “they make the faithful docile in readily obeying divine inspirations.” These gifts have the following functions:
1. WISDOM is the gift by which we recognize the emptiness of earthly things. By it we come to regard God and spiritual things as of the highest good.
2. UNDERSTANDING is that gift by which we are enabled to recognize the true Catholic teaching, and to detect false doctrines.
3. The gift of COUNSEL helps us to discover the will of God under difficult circumstances.
4. FORTITUDE is the gift by which we are strengthened under trials, to do God's will.
5. The gift of KNOWLEDGE enables us to grasp the teaching of the Church, to know God and Jesus Christ, whom the Father sent.
6. PIETY is that gift by which we love God as our Father, ever striving to do His will.
7. THE FEAR OF THE LORD makes us dread sin as the greatest of all evils, and enables us to quell fear of human beings and human respect.
Besides these seven gifts, the Holy Spirit also grants certain extraordinary gifts, which are given on rare occasions and to selected persons. Such extraordinary gifts are granted not for the benefit of the recipients, but of others. They were common during the early days of the Church, and helped in its rapid spread. Among them are the gift of the tongues, of miracles, of visions, and of prophecy. The apostles received the gift of the tongues on Pentecost. They also possessed the gift of miracles, curing the sick, driving out evil spirits, raising the dead to life.

HOW DO THE GIFTS OF THE HOLY SPIRIT HELP US?
The gifts of the Holy Spirit help us by making us more alert to discern and more ready and eager to do the will of God. “...these things God has revealed to us through the Spirit; for the Spirit searches everything, even the depths of God. For what human being knows what is truly human except the human spirit that is within? So also no one comprehends what is truly God's except the Spirit of God.” (Read 1Corinthians 2:10-13)
   i) If we look with discerning eyes, we can see how the gifts of the Holy Spirit have greatly helped the world at large.
ii) We can discern the operations of the Holy Spirit among the Church, as it was discernible among the early Christians. (Read Acts 2:42-43)
iii) The gifts make us follow the inspirations of the Holy Spirit. This way the gifts differ from the virtues as the latter only enables us to do what our reason directs.
iv) Some of the effects in us of the gifts of the Holy Spirit are the fruits of the Holy Spirit and the living beatitudes.

WHAT ARE THE TWELVE FRUITS OF THE HOLY SPIRIT?
They are: Charity, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, generosity, gentleness, faithfulness, modesty, self-control, and chastity. (cf. Gal. 5:22-23)
   a) These 12 fruits are perfections that the Holy Spirit forms in us as the first fruits of the eternal glory. They make us happy and contented, and help us to be pleasing to God and to our neighbour.
With the fruits of the Spirit our hearts incline with charity towards God and neighbour, and find it almost natural to be detached from the world.
   b) With the Self-gift of the Father, Son, and the Holy Spirit in sanctifying grace and its accompanying theological virtues, gifts of the Holy Spirit, and their effects, the Christian may be said to possess sanctity, to be in the state of Christian perfection. (Matt. 5:48) Sanctity is the fervent surrender of one's self to God and the practice of virtue. It does not require extraordinary works. For the best example, The Blessed Mother of God, the most holy of mortals, never performed any extraordinary works to excite worldly admiration.

NOVENA PRAYER to MARY- HELP OF CHRISTIANS

O most holy Virgin, Help of Christians, you worked and continue to work so many wonders through St.John Bosco, grant that through your goodness and through his merits, we, poor sinners, may receive the graces we ask for with all the fervour of our souls.
Three times the Hail Holy Queen with the invocation: Mary help of Christians, pray for us.
(Through this Novena Don Bosco worked many miracles)

WORRY, ANXIETY, FEAR: A Biblical Perspective

Worry, anxiety, and fear are the prevalent problems facing men, women and children alike in today's hectic world. Although many (not all) in the medical community would have us believe that anxiety and fear are caused by chemical imbalances, the Bible indicates another possible cause. That is not to deny that chemical imbalances exist but that it is not the only nor even the primary explanation for these common and sometimes debilitating problems. The Bible speaks specifically about worry, anxiety and fear. For example, Matthew says, “So do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will bring worries of its own. Today's trouble is enough for today.” (Matt. 6:34) St. Paul says, “Do not worry about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God.” (Philippians 4:6) Isaiah 41:10 says, “Do not fear, for I am with you, do not be afraid, for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my victorious right hand.”  If the Bible commands us not to worry, be anxious or fearful, then it must be possible to actually do so, and failing to do so could very well be a spiritual problem rather than a physical one. “Fear, worry, and anxiety are sins which can paralyse your mind, immobilize your body, and hinder your growth in Christ.  ...Satan, not God, is behind these obstacles to spiritual maturity; but God has graciously given you all that is necessary to overcome them.”
Worry is regarding things in future. It is undue concern about future events though it may be rooted in past experiences. An all too familiar question asked by a worried mind is “What if...?” Do you realize that the “What if...?” question does not have an answer that few of us remember. We tend to stop with the “What if...?” instead of going on to the answer, which is ... “then God.” Then God's grace will be sufficient. “...My grace is sufficient for you, for power is made perfect in weakness.” (2 Cor. 12:9)
“Both anxiety and worry spring from natural and legitimate concerns that are a part of life in this world. But legitimate concerns are handles wrongly when they do one or more of the following: 1) become dominating concerns in our life and lead to fear; 2) destroy our perspective on life and cause us to forget that God exists and cares; or 3) move us to drift into an attitude of constant worry and concern over a future we cannot control.”

Let us look at three basic issues that can lead to worry, anxiety, and fear:

1. A LACK OF TRUST IN GOD
How would you answer the question, “How trustworthy is God?” Take a look at the evidence of your life and consider the question not from what you know is true in your head but what you really believe in your heart? Does your life demonstrate that you really trust God? Consider the statement, “Fear begins with the belief, ‘I am no longer in control; while faith begins with the belief, “My loving Heavenly Father is in control.'” Are not worry and anxiety the result of not trusting God? You faith is not so much what you know to be true in your head but rather what your life proves you believe in your heart.

2. UNBELIEF
This may shock you because, after all, you believe in God. That is not the question, the question is, “Do you believe God?” You can be genuine believer in Jesus Christ yet fail to take Him at His word. For instance, Psalm 55:22, “Cast your burden on the Lord, and he will sustain you; he will never permit the righteous to be moved.” Other oft-quoted verses include, Romans 8:28, “We know that all things work together for good for those who love God, who are called according to his purpose.” Do you not only believe IN God but believe Him? If you really believe Him, what are you worried or anxious about that He does not have under control?

3. LIVING LIFE TO PLEASE SELF THAN TO PLEASE GOD
NO WAY! That is the reaction of most people when they hear that statement, so your reaction may not have been far from that. To make the point, take a few minutes and either mentally or on a piece of paper make a list of the things that cause you the most worry and anxiety. How many of those things include concern about how they will impact you? How many things in the list belong to this world and do not deal with your spiritual life? One of the most effective immediate weapons against anxiety is calling to mind that, “life is not about me, but about You (God).”

PRESCRIPTION FOR CHANGE
There are some very practical steps you can take to start reclaiming your thoughts and pursue change.
You must reclaim your thought life. John 8:32, “and you will know the truth, and the truth will make you free.” Worrisome and anxious thoughts lead to physical and emotional feelings of worry and anxiety. What you think about today will determine how you feel.
# Begin with repentance. If worry and anxiety are sin, the best place to start is with repentance, agreeing with God that your offense is against Him because you are failing to trust, believe and live for Him. Isaiah 30:15 says, “In returning and rest you shall be saved; in quietness and in trust shall be your strength.” # Choose to believe. Hebrews 11:1 says, “Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen.” Take God at His word, whether you see it or feel it or not.
# Customize your weaponry  by memorizing Scripture that addresses your specific thoughts. For instance, if you are fearful of world events, memorize Psalm 46:1-2, “God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble. Therefore we will not fear, though the earth should change, though the mountains shake in the heart of the sea.” Perhaps you worry about being alone; memorize Isaiah 41:10 (ref. above).
# Give thanks in all things. A heart of thankfulness and gratitude will eventually overtake a heart of worry. Verbalize thanksgiving and praise even when you do not feel it. Never cease to be thankful.
# Finally, consciously choose to live for Christ, daily. Philippians 1:21; “For to me, living is Christ...”
A life free of worry and anxiety is a life full of trust and peace.

NEW BIBLE READING PLANS FOR 2006

The Holy Bible, the Divine
Word of God, the Book of Faith and Revelation, should be read regularly everyday to nourish our Spirit, to strengthen our faith, hope and love, and to guide us at every moment of our life. Last year we had presented you with the 365-Day Bible Reading Plan- covering the whole Bible, with plans corresponding to each month of the year. We believe that, although it was little stretched out, it had benefitted the readers who stuck to the schedule and read the whole Bible within the year. This year we would like to introduce two new plans, viz., the 26-Week (6-month) NT reading Plan and the 52-Week (1 Year) OT reading Plan, which would help you to read the OT and the NT daily (OT in the morning and NT in the evening or vice versa). Hence, starting from this month, we will be providing you with both the reading plans every month. Set apart some time to read the passage everyday (early morning/evening/late night) and try your best to stick to the schedule. You’ll definitely get incredible results.
God Bless You!

A) FELL DOWN FROM THE 6TH FLOOR AND STILL  ALIVE !  THAT IS UNBELIEVABLE! !

Praise be to Jesus! Thanks be to Jesus!

I, Uday Chand (age-27 years), fell down from the sixth floor of a 15-storey building under construction at Indirapuram, Ghaziabad while working on March 29 this year. My co-workers found me wounded and unconscious and took me to the nearby hospital. I regained consciousness by God's grace on the fifth day. By this time, the doctors had examined me thoroughly
although they were not sure of my survival. Meanwhile, my wife prayed constantly to the Lord Jesus at the hospital begging for my life and vowed that if none of my bones broke she would definitely give my testimony here at Jeevan Dham. The loving and merciful Lord had pity on me and heard her humble prayer. I got a new life in Christ! Alleluia! To the surprise of the doctors, they found all my bones intact with not a single fracture anywhere leaving apart few wounds here and there. My neck was also stiff and moving it around was very painful for me. Hence, I had to wear a neck collar for about 2 months. But even after that, the doctor, on examination, extended this time for another 45 days. Today (before the 45 days' extended time got over), I came here leaving back the neck collar at home with the hope of getting relief. Within minutes of praising God, I felt that my neck stiffness had completely vanished. Now I can turn my neck around easily. My words of praise will fall too short of the grace and the blessing God has bestowed on me. Praise the Lord for His love and mercy endures forever.
Uday Chand, Ghaziabad
“Those who love me, I will deliver; I will protect those who know my name. When they call to me, I will answer them; I will be with them in trouble, I will rescue them and honor them. With long life I will satisfy them, and show them my salvation.” (Ps. 91:14-16)

B) JESUS TURNS MY 9-YEAR OLD EUNUCH CHILD TO A BOY!
Praise be to Jesus! Thanks be to Jesus!

I, Sheela, mother of Shivam who is now 9, was very much worried about him since he was a child. The reason behind was his undeveloped sexual organs. I showed him to our relatives and friends in our village who confirmed his condition and recommended an operation for Shivam. But out of fear I never took him to a doctor.
One day a lady in our neighbourhood told me about the healing prayer service being held every Sunday at Jeevan Dham. I came with her the next Sunday and heard the Word of God and the testimonies given by the people attentively. I then kept on attending the prayer service regularly. For the past few weeks, I used to bring Shivam too along with me. I prayed for him daily and applied blessed oil on his organs with deep faith in almighty God's love and mercy. One night (last month) Shivam noticed that his organs, which were earlier not developed, have been almost developed. That was indeed wonderful and incredible! The merciful Lord heard my fervent prayers very soon. Now, my sons' sexual organs are fully developed and he needs no operation or treatment. I thank my Lord a million times for such an invaluable blessing! All praise, glory and
honour be to Him always!
